Discover the Fun of Bareboat Sailing a Catamaran!!!
"Runaway Cat" - Jaguar 36 Catamaran
"Siyaya" - Island Spirit 40 Catamaran

Have you ever considered a bareboat charter on a cruising catamaran on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland or in the Caribbean? Multihulls can't be beat for maximum value and sensation of pure sailing performance. Catamarans offer more interior volume and deck space than monohull sailboats of equal length. No other bare boat or crewed sailboat charter vessel can match the degree of privacy and acoustic seclusion.
On deck, the thrill of dashing through the seas while sitting on the trampoline netting watching the water flow by or experiencing the total comfort of the spacious cockpit while thundering along on a reach will bring the sailor's passion alive.
For those seeking the comfort, value, and thrill of sailing a catamaran, Haven Charters has developed a program that will permit you to dispel any reservations you might have about bareboat/sailing and maneuvering a catamaran.

Key Point of Instructions
  • Twin Screws - Make for easy maneuvering and docking.
  • Speed Off the Wind - Trim, as with any sailboat, is the key to harnessing the power of a cat.
  • Going to Weather - The feel of a cat going to weather is much different then a monohull. While "pointing" is not a strong characteristic of a catamaran, speed and decreased angle of heel are.
  • Setting a Spinnaker - Trimmed like a genoa, a spinnaker is more easily handled on a catamaran, making down wind sailing exhilarating... not burdensome.
  • Anchoring a Catamaran - The basics are the same; it just needs to be addressed from a twin hull perspective.
All instruction is with a USCG certified captain. Depending on your level of skills, Haven Charters can provide a "Brush Up", "Multihull Coaching" or an "In-depth Catamaran Skills" package along with your bareboat charter. Instruction is $50 per hour: minimum of 3 hours. There is no pre-set number of hours for any of the instruction packages. The instructor will work closely with you to ensure that you are comfortable with the on-board systems, maneuvering and points of sail, to determine when you are ready to set out on you own.
If your goal is to sail a catamaran on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland as a family or small group (up to 10) or to explore the islands in the Caribbean, the crew at Haven Charters can teach the techniques and skills needed to sail a catamaran that will give you and your crew the degree of comfort and confidence to be true multihull sailors.
